Mad May Idea 2012

The idea behind this month of madness is to try and encourage people to  take regular exercise in their life.

As you may or may not know I’m competing in the Ironman 70.3 UK (1900m swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1mile run) on one of the hardest courses in the world, Also I’m competing in the London to Brighton run (56 mile run)

I do this to raise awareness for this website www.bustinyourballs.org

So as you can see I try hard to live an active life and try to encourage people to do something active a couple of times a week.

What I plan to do during this month is to run 10k everyday for the whole month, but on Sundays rather than run 10k I will run 20k all with a 20lb backpack and if I can fit in other training I will.

I hope some of you will try and find the time to get outside and get active

I will be using a app called runmeter, so I will posted a map link for all my runs under all of the relevant days, this is just so YOU know i’m sticking to it.

All the best and I hope you all have Fun getting active.

London Marathon 2012

Well what can I say, This was probably one of the best days of my life.

The support crowds and all of the fellow runners was just fantastic.

As you can see by the image below I ran in a morph suit.

It was a challenge to say the least, as a few months before I had hand foot & mouth and  only a few days after recovering from that I broke my fifth metacarpal ( bottom of little finger).

So my training for the race had taken a bit of a knock, luckily I had been doing a lot of run training over the winter.(winter miles summer smile)

So two weeks before the race I headed to Blade Printing Services in Reading to get my Morph suit logoed up.

It arrived all ready to go a few days before the race.

I must say I was SO happy with how it looked.

So come race day.

Up at 5:30am for breakfast and headed to Greenwich Park for the pre race point.

The weather was perfect and I was ready to rock.

The race overall went really well and there was so much support on the course with people shouting ” GO ON BYB”

At points in the course there were a bands playing or a music system then I would start dancing with the crowd and joking with them.

I also had a few water fights with the volunteers  at the water stations so I got very wet which helped as I was quite hot in what I was wearing.

I had to take off the head section of the suit and wring it out when it got wet as I couldn’t see out of it properly.

All in all It was an event I would love to do again.

The South Hammer Sportive (forfeited due to injury)

Oh well this last five weeks haven’t gone according to plan what with me missing the first event due to hand foot and mouth and now having to miss this one due to me breaking my fifth metacarpal (bottom on little finger).

Also the main reason of competing is to spread the word of the testicular cancer awareness though wearing the BYB logo.

Well what can you do when injury happens, not much just do the very best you can by keeping your self active without putting too much pressure on the certain area in pain.

This is some pics with the injury, I did it while running home after work one night and caught my feet up in a metal hoop and went thump on the pavement.

The finger feels a better than it did just not ready to put pressure on it.

I’m  100% that I will be ready for my next event the London Marathon.

Saucony 10k (forfeited through illness)

Well as you know I was meant to be competing in my first event of 2012 today the Saucony 10k.

However due to having had something called Coxsackie virus click here (hand, foot and mouth disease).and not feeling 100%, I thought it sensible not to compete.

It is hard for any athlete whatever standard you are to forfeit a race, but as always HEALTH COMES FIRST.

Also the main reason of competing is to spread the word of the testicular cancer awareness though wearing the BYB logo.

But that was only part of the reason I went to the triathlon show at Sandown race course over the weekend.

I went there to speak to event organisers, sports companies and my supporters to discuss my plan for Bustinyourballls for the next 12 months and beyond.

It was great to see my photo on the Ironman stand aswell.

Please let us all carry on spreading the word of” simplifying testicular cancer”

NEW YEARS MESSAGE

I’d thought I would just write a few words on this year of bustinyourballs.org.

Firstly I would like to THANK YOU all for your support over this last year (well it will be a year on the 6th January)

It has been a good year for all involved in raising awareness in all different areas of cancer.

I believe people are starting to GET and STAY more aware of their own bodies which is so great as health is the most important thing in the world.

Funding for a lot of cancer charities has been better than in past years and with the recession still hanging over us……what more can I say…you are all amazing.

With all illnesses there have been many that have sadly passed away this year, so I take this minute to remember them and send their family and friends my warmth and heart felt wishes.

So what does 2012 bring us.

Well the Olympics are coming to London which is amazing, so It will be great to see more people getting active and involved in all sporting activities.

There are also some big plans that I have in mind to make bustinyourballs.org a more recognised name in the cancer world.

Thank you all once again for your support in all that I am trying to achieve.

Finally I would like to wish you, your family and your friends a very happy and healthy 2012

My 7 year Cancerversary

Well as you know 7 years ago today I was told that I had stage IV testicular cancer and was told that I would not make it.

My life since that happen has been really quite crazy as you can imagine, you can read my story through my treatment HERE

I know this might sound strange to some of you but I still believe that having had cancer was the best thing that happened to me, it has had more of a positive affect on me than a negative one for sure.

I was always a very positive person before Cancer, but now I am even more so, I don’t take life too seriously and believe that if you have been given another shot at life then DON’T screw it up.

I am dedicating the rest of my life to help fight this disease and help people catch it early before it gets too hard for them to deal with..

I hope that you and your friends and family will all join me in this fight to help….

SIMPLIFY TESTICULAR CANCER

London Duathlon

Got up: 5:15am Breakfast: Apricot Muesli with soya milk, bananas, honey and cacao nibs. Water. Location: Richmond Park, London Conditions: 1st run – Grass and tarmac, undulating. Bike – Tarmac, very undulating with one biggish hill. 2nd run – Same as first. Weather:  Extremely windy with a few showers of rain but very warm & sunny in between. Race. First Run: As soon as I got onto the main road on the run the wind hit me head on and I thought      “ I’m in for a tough day here”, but as per usual I started off at a steady pace as not to tire myself, good pace throughout the run though, just one bad point was that I had some friction underneath my arms from the rubbing. T1: Good Bike: On the bike the wind was the main factor and with seven laps of the park it wasn’t going to be easy. I had to stop a few times to get some water at the water station that was for the runners as there were no feed stations on the side of the road that the bikes were on. (that cost me time). T2: The dismount wasn’t great as one of my shoes unclipped off my pedal and a marshal very kindly ran after me shouting. After the friction burns from the first run I put some anti-friction cream on, I also poured some water over my head to cool down. 2nd Run: Legs felt good after the bike. Two miles in there is quite a tough up hill section and I thought it best to walk up it fast rather than to run so that I didn’t fade on the rest of the run. That worked really well as I kept a very good pace throughout the rest of the run.
