Race: First run: started steady as always, around 5k started to overtake people from the waves before mine,as always got motivation from that and the speed increased. T1: not so good, all was going well apart from not being able to get my feet into my shoes properly while on the bike. Bike: felt good throughout, no probs T2: Perfect. Second run: Good, nice and steady, overtook around 10 people on this section. What did I learn: I need to work on my first run, (speed work) saying that, that was my last duathlon until September, apart from that, maybe a little more cycle training.

BYB shop to launch this month

Hi there. I’m please to announce that within the next month you will be able to buy the www.bustinyourballs.org T-Shirts ,Hoodies and water bottles direct from this site. I will keep you informed of the launch date. Just to make you aware that I will be making no money from this, the money for the items will go directly to pay for the cost of the T-shirts,Hoodies or water bottles and the printing. www.bladeprint.co.uk have very kindly offered to do all of the printing at COST price. If any supplier out there would be willing to donate some plain black T-shirts, hoodies or drinking bottles that would be great, then there would only be a cost for postage and printing then any profit will be donated to Cancer Research UK via my site link, CLICK HERE . This would not only publicise my site with all its information about testicular cancer, but would also raise money to help fight the disease.

Mad May Idea

I have come up with a bit of a crazy idea to do during the month of May.

The idea is to run a minimum of 10k each day for the whole month as well as my regular training and scheduled events

Each run will be done using the Runmeter iphone app and will be uploaded to both my Twitter & Facebook pages.

This is so you can see that I am actually doing what I set out to do.

The aim is to get people active and involved in sport and also to spread the word of bustinyourballs.org .

I hope that you will all support me on this and if you are free on any of the days in May and want to come running let me know, and we can hook up.

Conditions: Run – gravel,grass.tarmac,undulating. Bike – tarmac, very undulating with some tough hills. Weather: Bit chilly, slight wind, bit sunny. Race: First run; Started steady so not to fast as per usual, started to overtake people around 4k, so got motivation through that and started going faster. T1: Perfect. Bike: good solid bike ride, with some very cheeky hills, just a few issues with getting the right gears didn’t feel cold at all, drunk enough fluid too, plus one gel at 25k. T2: Perfect. Second run: first 1-2 k was hard after a tough bike course, got better on the rest of the run. What did I learn: need to have breakfast a touch earlier ( 3hrs before ) apart from that, more training.

A FRIEND HELPING TO PUSH THE CAUSE

Well it is great when you have friends that want to happy you out.

I was contacted be Jez Meredith, who is doing a load of different events this year too.

What great about this is that he wants to help push the cause and raise awareness of testicular cancer by wearing the BYB T-shirt.

Thank you for Jez for supporting BYB and good luck in all your events in 2011 and beyond.

PRESS COVERAGE

As you may have seen already through my Twitter & Facebook links, I have an article in a magazine called Triathlon Plus.

I’m really happy with how it all turned out, I remember it being really cold on the day the photos were taken and yes there really is a tank near my flat.

I hope that people enjoy reading the article and see why I’m doing what I’m doing.

Follow this link to get a sneak peek.

Clumber Park Duathlon

Location: Clumber Park Nottinghamshire Conditions: Gravel roads, undulating, very open bike course. Weather: Very cold, 0 degrees, very windy, drizzle. Race First Run – Felt ok just felt really heavy in the stomach,(ate to much breakfast) T1 – Went ok. Bike – Really cold and windy ( need to wear more clothing) hands freezing, quads turning blue and couldn’t feel my arms and neck.

T2 – Couldn’t feel my hands after the bike so that made it hard to undo my helmet and put on the shoes.

Second Run – First part felt weird in the newtons but then got easier, hard hills though. What did I learn: Ate to much for breakfast, didn’t wear enough clothes, didn’t warm up enough.

Over all it was a great experience, stunning location for a race the organization was all very good and the marshals & volunteers were very enthusiastic.
