Health Concerns

As you may or may not know, I was planning to complete something called “Part Of A Tri Everyday In July” See here.

While working for the last 4 weeks at 60 hours a week.

Within the last 10 days some health issues have been noticed by myself.

Just over ten days ago I noticed some blood in my urine, so I went to see my GP, he took some blood and a urine sample and put me on a course of antibiotics.

After the course had finish there was not too much blood in my urine. But after work on Friday night (22nd) I ran home as normal, got home and just blood came when I went.

I Rang my Mum, and she said get yourself down to Charing Cross hospital (The Hospital where I was treated for my cancer) A&E.

They were very quick to see me, they took 3 lots of blood and a urine sample.

After 1 1/2 hours I was told i was ok to go home, they said that many runners get this problem, but they would get me a appointment with a specialist.

I have a specialist appointment on Tuesday 2nd August.

So I have been instructed to take the next few day steady and see what happens.

I have Googled the issue I  have and it is not uncommon, some say it could be due to dehydration.

With regards to my next event The London Triathlon,I am going to see what happens in the next 4 days……

I hope to still be able to compete though.

Part of a tri everyday in July

Well as you may know I have been thinking of an idea similar to my mad may idea for the month of July.

Where as for everyday in the whole month I do something active,  (May was running 10k everyday).

Well as you may or may not know an Olympic distance triathlon consists of a 1500m swim, 40k bike, 10k run.

So with all that said, I plan to do a least one of those three disciplines everyday in July.

The reason for this is like the mad may idea, it’s to get people active and enjoying sport and also I have two triathlons coming up with those distances in them.

Dartmoor classic

Got up: 4am

Breakfast: 4:30 soya milk with nut muesli, water,

Location: Dartmoor,Devon.

Conditions: tarmac roads, very undulating, 3407 meters of climbs.

Weather: started very misty then turned into the most beautiful sunny day with a touch of wind.

Race: The race went very well over all, as I sort of remembered the course from last year I could work out my nutrition and gear selection much easier, the day turned out to be very hot indeed so I was very pleased to see an extra water station at around 50 miles into the course, that water was a great break from all the energy drinks that I was having, plus some of it was poured over my head and neck to cool my body down. All the support was great along the whole route.

Nutrition: I had a ZipVit caffeine gel with water 90 mins before the raced started, after the first hour I had a regular energy gel, next hour a caffeine gel and so on for the whole race, plus in all I had 9 X bottles of energy drink and 3 X bottles of water, oh yes and 1 banana.

The race for me I thought went very well indeed, I bettered my time from last year by 43 mins 22 secs, I think what really made the difference was having my Mum,Dad and Auntie there supporting me.

Distance: 106 miles

Time: 0:6:50:54 which means a silver medal

Placing: 125th out of  900

Windsor Triathlon

Got up: 4:15

Breakfast: 500g apricot muesli, soya milk,2 X bananas,water

Location: Windsor and the Surrounding areas

Conditions:
Water – perfect., Bike – tarmac, little undulating, Run – tarmac, undulating.

Weather: little wind,raining,cold

Race

Swim: Started off in the second row in my wave but within the first 20 metres the velcro on my  wetsuit started to rub against my neck,( I must not have done it up properly),anyway I continued swimming close to the boats as advised, started to overtake swimmers in my wave at about 200 metres in and also started to overtake swimmers that were in the previous 2 waves.nice steady pace throughout.

T1: perfect

Bike: the mount was not the best that I have done, but  I started at a good pace, was starting to rain quite hard by this time and it was cold,so I started to push the pace as to try and warm up,got all the gear selection perfect, which was good as I really didn’t know the course at all.at about 30k in my hands my feet were getting really cold, but finished the section off strongly.

T2: started well, good dismount from the bike, legs felt good, just couldn’t undo my helmet as my hands were SO cold as too were my feet,so getting my shoe on was hard too.

Run: very steady pace throughout, there are some cheeky little uphill sections too.

Distances: swim – 1500m – bike 40k – run 10k

All in all I’m happy with the result considering that I have never done this course before nor have I  swum against the currant. The weather as well was getting worse as the race went on.A big thank you to all the Marshall’s for there support.

Mad May Idea Summary

As you may already know I planned to completed What I called “A Mad May Idea”

The idea was to run a minimum of 10k each day for the whole month as well as my regular training and scheduled events

Each run was done using the Runmeter iphone app and was uploaded to both my Twitter & Facebook pages.

That was so you can see that I actually did what I set out to do.

The aim is to get people active and involved in sport and also to spread the word of bustinyourballs.org .

The Total amount I ran in May was 324.73km or 202 miles

Bike: first 600m my chain came loose,so had to stop and put it back on,apart from that it was ok,just lacking practice going from swim to bike.
